Product Information

Serums are water-based products that have a smaller molecule size, so they can penetrate deeply into the skin. Serums hydrate and provide some of the most potent botanicals that work on the deeper layers of the skin. Face oils tend to have a larger molecule size than serums, and work on the upper layers of the skin. Oils are extremely moisturizing and work to reinforce the skin barrier. We recommend using a serum and an oil daily. Serums should be applied first, allowed to completely absorb, and then an oil should be applied next.

Within the skincare and beauty industries, many terms are overused and unregulated. So, how do we select the ingredients that go into our formulas and how do we choose what to leave out?

We use the best ingredients that nature has to offer and continually try to raise the bar for our formulas. We regularly reexamine how our ingredients are sourced, where they’re grown, and what is most effective for our skincare.

Unfortunately, the word “natural” does not have a single, accepted, and regulated definition across all countries so we use the international standard known as ISO 16128-1. At minimum, our ingredients must meet the below criteria for natural or derived natural ingredients and not be non-natural ingredients, which we consider to be synthetic ingredients.

“Natural ingredients are cosmetic ingredients obtained only from plants, animals, micro-organisms or minerals…

Derived natural ingredients are cosmetic ingredients of greater than 50% natural origin, by molecular weight, by renewable carbon content, or by any other relevant methods, obtained through defined chemical and/or biological processes with the intention of chemical modification…

Non-natural ingredients are ingredients that are greater than or equal to 50% by molecular weight of fossil fuel origin.”

But that is just where we start. While all of our ingredients must meet that standard, we are always aiming much, much higher. We utilize organic, locally sourced, and upcycled ingredients wherever possible.

The full definition of ISO-16128-1 can be found on the ISO website here.

Cleanse face. Apply a hydrating serum as directed. Dispense 4-7 drops of oil onto fingertips and rub together lightly. Gently press oil onto face and neck, distributing evenly. If your skin needs more moisture, repeat. Allow oil to absorb for 3-5 minutes before applying moisturizer or makeup.

We recommend applying our face oils morning and night after cleansing your skin.

Yes. Let the oil absorb into your skin for 3-5 minutes after applying before putting on makeup. If your skin feels oily after this, you are using too much facial oil. If your skin feels dry, then try using a few more drops of oil. Your skin will feel hydrated, soft, and smooth after applying the correct amount.

This will depend on your skin. After applying facial oil, wait 3-5 minutes for the oil to absorb into your skin. Then try applying a light moisturizer. If the moisturizer is too heavy, leave it out.

There are a lot of myths about putting oil on your skin, when in reality, pure plant oils are one of the healthiest things that you can put on your skin. We formulate our oils with plant botanicals that do not clog pores, and contain fatty acids, minerals, and antioxidants that improve the condition of skin. We break out when our skin overproduces oil, but plant oils help to prevent breakouts by regulating skin’s natural oil production. As with all beauty products, we advise patch testing products on a small area to ensure there are no allergic reactions.

Absolutely. When we over-wash and/or do not thoroughly moisturize our skin, it reacts by overproducing oil and sebum that leads to clogged pores, oily skin, and acne. Plant oils hydrate skin without clogging pores, and help to regulate the skin’s natural oil production.

Being that we do not use any artificial preservatives, and our products are truly all-natural, they typically have a shelf life of 12-18 months. By keeping our oils out of direct sunlight, and at room temperature (or below!), they will stay fresher for longer. In the rare instance that you receive a product that is not at its optimum freshness, please email hello@nakedandthriving.com right away.

Yes. It is recommended to use SPF during the day.

Can I Ingest Essential Oils?

No, please do not ingest. The oils are meant for external use only.

Are Essential Oils Safe To Inhale?

Essential oils have a variety of health benefits, from skincare to stress relief. The most common way to use essential oils is to inhale them, either directly out of the bottle or by using a diffuser or humidifier. Oil diffusers are safer for the lungs, and when used correctly, they have many benefits! However, we recommend consulting your doctor prior to using Essential Oils.

Do I Apply Essential Oils Directly To My Skin?

Please note that those with sensitive skin should avoid highly acidic essential oils (in their baths and otherwise) to avoid any irritation.

Is It Possible To Have An Allergic Reaction?

Yes. We recommend discontinuing use immediately and contacting your doctor if you notice any type of reaction.

Please note that even when diluted, essential oil can cause a reaction if you use too much or use it too often. That’s true even if you’re not allergic or unusually sensitive to them.

Are Essential Oils Safe During Pregnancy Or Around Children?

We recommend discussing essential oils and all products with your doctor or pediatrician before using these products around children or during pregnancy.

Required Warning for Consumers in California

For certain essential oils sold to California residents, Naked & Thriving includes a warning on each essential oil’s product page indicating that the product contains constituents identified in Proposition 65. Although our products are considered safe, Naked & Thriving, along with all companies selling in California, is required to provide this warning to comply with the controversial California law known as Prop 65. Such warnings are commonly seen on all types of products in California. No other State has such a law.

Proposition 65 is a California law enacted in 1986 that requires cancer and birth defect risk warnings on products containing any of the 900+ substances listed by the State of California (see http://oehha.ca.gov/proposition-65/proposition-65-list). The warning is required in many cases even if the substance is found in extremely minute, trace amounts that fall far below FDA and World Health Organization Guidelines. In fact, Prop 65 requires the warning unless the exposure to the chemical is at least 1,000 times lower than the level of exposure that has been scientifically shown to have no negative effect on humans or animals.

Are Naked & Thriving Essential Oils Safe To Use?

Yes! Naked & Thriving uses natural ingredients that are considered safe and follow strict testing and quality assurance protocols. It’s only natural to find some scientifically-proven safe traces of naturally occurring properties that happen to be listed on Prop 65 in natural products. Please rest assured that you can continue to safely use Naked & Thriving’s essential oils.
